Stable Audio Commercial & Usage Licensing

This guide outlines how licensing works across Stable Audio subscriptions and API usage, including guidelines for commercial media, apps, and games.

Licensing Overview:

Whether you use a Free, Solo, Creator, Pro, Studio, Max, or pay-as-you-go through the API, commercial use is permitted, subject to our Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy.

 

Usage in Apps, Games, and Interactive Media:

Yes, you can use Stable Audio-generated music and sound effects in mobile apps, desktop software, and video games.

  • Embedded Assets: You may use generated tracks and sound effects as background music or other audio assets in video games, mobile apps, and software projects, including on the Free plan, subject to the applicable Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy.

 

Permitted Commercial Use Cases:

As examples, you may use your generated outputs for:

  • Monetized YouTube, Twitch, and social media videos
  • Commercial advertisements, podcasts, and client projects
  • Embedded background audio in mobile apps, web apps, and video games
  • Monetized commercial releases and digital streaming distribution

Standalone Distribution and Enterprise Protections:

You may commercially distribute generated audio, including as standalone tracks, stock music, sound libraries, or sample packs, subject to the applicable Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy. You are responsible for ensuring that your use does not violate anyone else’s rights. If you need contractual indemnification or other negotiated protections, contact our sales team about an Enterprise agreement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use tracks generated on a Free plan if I upgrade to Solo later?

Yes. Commercial use is permitted for tracks generated on the Free plan, subject to the applicable Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy. You do not need to upgrade to Solo to use those tracks commercially, and upgrading does not change their commercial-use status.

What if I’m self-hosting Stability’s open weight models?

Self-hosted models are governed by the license applicable to the particular model, rather than your Stable Audio subscription. Stable Audio 3.0 Small and Medium are listed as Core Models available under the Community License Agreement. That license permits qualifying commercial use without a license fee for users below its revenue threshold, but requires commercial users to register and comply with its other conditions. If you or your affiliates exceed $1 million in annual revenue, individually or in aggregate, you can no longer rely on the Community License and must request a separate license from Stability AI. Check the applicable license before self-hosting any other model.
